Myrialis King

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

Myrialis King leads the development of Community Academies and serves as its Chief Executive Officer.

Myrialis King is the Founder of Foundation Preparatory Academy, a literacy-focused elementary school in New Orleans. Originally from Puerto Rico and a native Spanish speaker, King began her career educating students in the inner-city of Holyoke, MA, where she tutored elementary school students after school, (at the request of her community) started and ran a GED program, and taught high school English. She worked with a large community of, like herself, English Learners (EL), which, coupled with her own educational experience, sparked for her a passion for equitable education.

Parent Board Election Policy

Community Academies of New Orleans’ policy requires that its Board of Directors always includes at least one member who is either a parent, legal guardian, or grandparent of a currently enrolled student, or an alumnus of the school. This member may be appointed or elected. They will have equal rights and duties as other board members and will undergo the same nomination process, which is overseen by the Governance Committee. This committee may also propose candidates for board vacancies as they arise. All board positions, including the parent/alumni member, are filled by a majority vote of the Board of Directors.
